Einver’s Story
It felt impossible. Hidden away in the mist-covered mountains where a small community in the Philippines lived for generations, education was once a distant dream. It was spoken of with hope, but remained out of reach. One boy did dream. He had no father. His mother had no work. There were three other siblings. Their survival depended on the wages of their older brother.
Then something shifted.
INfire donors supported a young man who started a school in the heart of their community. This boy, wide-eyed and uncertain, was one of the first to enroll. Many of the children were recruited as rebels—if they were old enough to carry a weapon—but a school in a community ended this.
When Einver made it to high school, it meant working by day and studying by night. He showed up tired most mornings, sometimes hungry, but always quietly determined. College brought new challenges. Some of our leaders, Pastor Reuben and his wife welcomed him into their home, offering meals, shelter, and encouragement when his hope ran thin.
“I thought about quitting so many times,” he told us.“But then I’d remember why I started.” The doubts came in waves. When money ran dry or exams piled high, giving up made sense. But faithful people stayed with him. Mentors checked in. Donors covered the costs of transportation, fees, and books. Quiet miracles met him year after year.
And then, one day, he crossed the graduation stage.
He was the first in his community’s history to earn a college degree. His mother wept. His siblings watched, stunned. The community elders nodded with quiet pride.
Now, he plans to return. He wants to teach at the school where it all began. “They need to see that someone like them made it,” he said. “They need to know it’s possible.”
First, he must pass the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. He’s preparing now, but needs help to cover review fees, travel, and basic expenses.
Your gift will help Einver take this final step. It will also open the door wider for others.
When one child breaks through, they carry more than their own future. They clear a path for others to walk behind them.
