The people preparing to save lives were getting sick from a glass of water.
Near the Myanmar–Thailand border, twelve students are training to become healthcare workers. Many have already been displaced by conflict, determined to continue their education despite everything they’ve lost. Yet each day, the water they drank threatened to undo that determination.
For months, however, the people preparing to heal others faced a problem of their own.
The school had no reliable source of safe drinking water.
Among the students are twelve young men and women training in healthcare. Each day they learned how to prevent illness and care for the sick. Then they stepped outside and drank water that often made them sick themselves. Diarrhea, stomach infections, and other waterborne illnesses became part of daily life. Some students missed valuable time in the classroom while recovering. Others eventually left the school altogether as the combined pressures of unsafe water, limited food, and inadequate shelter became too much to overcome.
Conflict had already taken these students from their homes. Something as basic as clean water was now threatening to take away their education as well.
Then something changed.
Through the Water Filtration Project, the school gained access to safe, clean drinking water. Students no longer have to worry that every drink could make them ill. Just as importantly, the school no longer needs to spend its already limited budget purchasing sterilized water, allowing those resources to help meet other urgent needs, including food for students living at the shelter.

It’s easy to overlook the significance of something as ordinary as clean water until it is no longer available. Yet in places like this, some of the most meaningful changes begin with meeting the most basic needs.
At INfire, we believe protecting vulnerable communities often starts long before a crisis. Sometimes it means strengthening families. Sometimes it means investing in education. And sometimes it means ensuring that the young people preparing to care for others have the opportunity to finish their own journey first.
Because every student who remains in school is more than a graduate in the making. They are a future healthcare worker, a future leader, and a future source of hope for communities that need them now more than ever.
For these young men and women, clean water was more than a basic necessity. It was one less obstacle standing between them and the calling they are preparing to fulfill.
Their journey isn’t over.
Many students at the school still face ongoing challenges, including limited food, shelter, educational resources, and the daily realities of displacement. Yet they continue showing up, determined to learn, serve, and build a different future.
You can help make that future possible.
When you give to INfire, you help equip schools, strengthen vulnerable communities, and remove barriers that keep children and young adults from becoming the leaders, caregivers, and peacemakers their communities desperately need.
A gift of $40 a month can help keep a student learning, growing, and preparing to serve others in a place where hope is urgently needed.
Will you stand with them?
